Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy comes with a lot of questions, and that's completely normal. Here are answers to the ones I hear most often. If something isn't covered here, reach out and I'll be happy to help.
Getting Started With Therapy
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you've been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or sensing that something in your life no longer fits, therapy can be a supportive place to sort through it. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit; many people come to therapy simply because they're ready to understand themselves more deeply.
If you're unsure, a free consultation is a low-pressure way to explore whether we'd be a good fit.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on your goals. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific challenge; others stay longer to explore deeper patterns around trauma, attachment, or relationships. We'll check in regularly about how things are going, and you're always in charge of the pace and duration.
What happens in the first session?
Our first session is about getting to know each other. We'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and any questions you have about the process. There's no pressure to share everything at once; we move at a pace that feels right for you.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute phone or video consultation so we can meet, talk about what you're looking for, and see if working together feels like a good fit. You can book one through the contact page.
Sessions, Fees & Insurance
How much does a psychotherapy session cost?
Here are my current session rates:
Free consultation — 15 minutes, free
Initial assessment — 60 minutes, $160
Individual therapy (in-person or virtual) — 60 minutes, $150
Couples therapy (in-person or virtual) — 60 minutes, $180; 90 minutes, $260
Payment is due at the time of your session, and you'll receive a receipt you can submit to your insurance provider.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Yes. I offer sliding scale spots, determined on an individual basis by annual income and other personal factors.
If cost feels like a barrier, please reach out; I'm happy to talk it through.
Is psychotherapy covered by insurance in Ontario?
Many extended health plans in Ontario cover psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. Coverage varies by plan, so it's worth checking two things with your provider: whether your plan covers services from a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), and how much coverage you have per year.
OHIP does not cover private psychotherapy, but insurance receipts are provided after every session.
What is your cancellation policy?
Life happens, and I understand plans change. I ask for 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or missed sessions are subject to the full session fee.
About Psychotherapy & My Approach
What does Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) mean?
It means I'm registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and practising psychotherapy while completing the final requirements for full registration. I work under clinical supervision, which means my work is supported by an experienced psychotherapist; an extra layer of care built into your therapy.
What's the difference between a psychotherapist, psychologist, and psychiatrist?
All three support mental health, and the differences come down to training and focus:
Psychotherapists provide talk therapy and are regulated by the CRPO in Ontario
Psychologists hold a doctoral degree and can provide therapy and psychological assessments
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can diagnose conditions and prescribe medication
If at any point we feel another type of support would serve you well, I'll help you find it.
What therapy approaches do you use?
My approach is integrative and relational, which means I tailor our work to you rather than following a single formula. I draw on emotion-focused therapy, internal family systems–informed work, person-centred therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches. I'm especially interested in trauma, attachment, emotional regulation, and how earlier experiences shape the way we feel and connect today.
Who do you work with?
I work with adult individuals and couples. I'm particularly passionate about supporting men and women navigating life transitions, people healing from past wounds, and intercultural couples working through the beautiful complexity of blending backgrounds and identities.
Do you offer therapy in Polish?
Tak! I offer psychotherapy in both English and Polish. Oferuję również usługi w języku polskim.
Privacy & Practical Details
Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything you share in session is confidential, with a few legal exceptions that exist to keep people safe (such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others, suspected harm to a child, or a court order). We'll go over these together in your first session so there are never any surprises.
Where is your office located?
I have two offices to meet clients wherever is most convenient for them:
In Etobicoke, near Jane & Bloor at 2425 Bloor St W - Suite 404. Easily accessible from west Toronto,
In Mississauga, at 1420 Burnhamthorpe Road East, Suite 310.
Virtual sessions are also available anywhere in Ontario.
How do I get started?
Reaching out is often the hardest step, and it gets easier from here. Book a free consultation whenever you're ready; I'd be glad to meet you.
